Welcome to Lyran’s home page!
The Academic Female Voice Choir Lyran is the only female voice choir at the University of Helsinki. The choir unites around 50 young female students studying at the various universities and colleges in the Helsinki region. Since September 2009, Lyran has been conducted by M.Mus. Jutta Seppinen, a respected musician known for her ambition and innovative choice of repertoire, leading Lyran towards new challenges in contemporary and classic choral music. The language of the choir is Swedish, the second national language of Finland.
Lyran aims to support emerging Finnish musicians by commissioning new, exciting music on a regular basis. Lyran performs at a number of annual concerts, but also initiates entirely new projects every year, including concert tours, recording sessions, and collaborations with other choirs in Finland and abroad. In addition, Lyran has a solid tradition of providing ensembles for musical entertainment at events such as anniversaries, corporate events, weddings and memorial services.
